It's our annual PUTTING FOR POLIO event...at Haggin Oaks Golf Course! Instead of our usual Friday morning meeting at Del Paso Country Club, we'll be meeting at Haggin Oaks at 7:30 am for a fun morning of putting, breakfast and hijinks! Wear your funkiest golf attire (yes, we'll have a contest!) and join us to help raise funds for the eradication of polio. Rotary's #1 goal is to eliminate polio...in the world! We're getting close, but we can't let up now. Join us, bring your putter, and have fun. And we'll accept contributions for Polio Plus...no donation is too big, or too small! |

Our annual event is one of our favorites..."Putting for Polio" at Haggin Oaks Golf Course. Join us on Friday morning, 7:30 am, October 3rd when we'll focus on raising funds to end polio...in the world! Rotary's #1 goal is to eradicate polio, which is currently endemic in only two countries. We are so close and need everyone's help to get us across the line! The Gates Foundation is even matching all of our donations 2 to 1 (up to $50 million per year). There will be some fun putting contests and we encourage everyone to wear their best and funkiest golf outfits! Breakfast will be served.

Another great meeting coming up...besides the usual fun, merriment and announcements, Jennifer Stolo will be our speaker. She is the CEO for Robert Craig Films and they have just produced a movie called "No Address". Inspired by true events, No Address follows the harrowing journey of Lauren, a young woman pushed onto the streets and forced to survive against all odds. It is a gripping journey of living without walls and rising above them. It is currently available for rent or purchase on a variety of streaming services. We'll be meeting on Friday, October 24th at Del Paso Country Club - the meeting starts at 7:30 am, but come early to socialize and have breakfast! Our speaker will be John Mohammad, COO of D.A.R.T. The Drowning Accident Rescue Team (D.A.R.T.) was founded in 1980 by a group of concerned, caring, ambulance company employees from Elk Grove. Many of them, scuba divers and medics, familiar with drowning physiology, wanted to rescue people, rather than to recover bodies. Their mission is to save lives and recover property from the various rivers, lakes and waterways in and around Sacramento County. They are a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization that relies on donations and fundraisers to continue to serve the community.

Our speaker will be Mike Nelson, who worked for the U.S. Marshals Service and served in various positions within the Service, retiring with 30 years of service as a highly decorated Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal in 1999. Veteran's Program

One of our favorite meetings, where we celebrate those who have served our country - our annual Veteran's Day program! Veterans Day is a U.S. legal holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars, and Veterans Day 2025 will occur on Tuesday, November 11th. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as “the Great War.” In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became known as Veterans Day. We'll be meeting at North Ridge Country Club - starting promptly at 7:30 am.

SAVE THE DATE! On Sunday, November 9th, Point West Rotarians will be staffing an aid station on the bike trail for the American River "Run the Parkway" event. We've done this for several years and need helpers to pour and hand out water and energy drinks to the runners. Dan Hall is chairing this aid station for our club and he'll be providing more details as we get closer to the event.

Dick Fowler, a member of our District's Youth Protection Committee, will be joining us to provide info on what youth protection certification is all about and why we need to talk about it in Rotary. Dick will ensure we all know what to do when faced with an ethical situation involving youth in one of our programs or events. Also, a reminder about the annual PWR Charity Golf Classic "Birdies Over Bunkers" happening on Monday, May 18th at Valley Hi Country Club. We need sponsors, players, volunteers, raffle prize donators, etc. So check your calendars (to play, sponsor or volunteer) and your closets and connections (for those great raffle prizes) and help support the tournament...and local children's charities. Speaker - Senator Angelique Ashby

Senate Majority Leader Angelique Ashby will be our speaker on February 27, 2026. Senator Ashby represents the 8th District and is the first woman elected to represent Sacramento in the California State Senate in more than 20 years. Prior to joining the legislature, she was elected to the Sacramento City Council, where she served for 12 years. She was the sole woman for more than half of her tenure, and is the only member in city history to serve as Vice Mayor or Mayor Pro Tem for 8 years. During her time on City Council, she secured millions to fund schools, community centers, parks and fire stations. She brought thousands of high-wage jobs to the Sacramento region, by attracting a Fortune 100 company.
