History and Mission

The Point West Rotary Foundation is an auxiliary organization of the Rotary Club of Point West, a club founded in Sacramento in 1985. With more than 160 members, the club is the second largest club in Rotary International's District 5180.

In 1998, the club created the Foundation to help those in need in our community, as an enduring legacy to past, present, and future Point West Rotarians,.

Since being established, the Foundation has donated over $1.1 million to over one hundred worthy charitable causes in three broad categories:
  • Organizations that create opportunity, enhance self esteem, and provide physical and moral support for vulnerable children;
  • Programs that celebrate or promote community service; and
  • Service activities of Rotary International and other Rotary clubs.

Grants must finance a specific benevolent activity; requests for support of general operations (operating expenses) are not considered; and grants are made only to qualified 501 (c) (3) and other tax qualified organizations.

Point West’s grant process involves the interaction of the Foundation, the club’s Board of Directors and the club’s Grant Review Committee. The Grant Review Committee is charged with reviewing grant applications.  The role of the Foundation is to generate donations and otherwise grow capital of a perpetual trust fund that supports the grants. The Foundation accepts contributions of cash, stock, securities and real property.  Donations are tax deductible to the extent of IRS regulations.
