Point West Rotary in the Community
Dear Members and Fellow Rotarians,

Happy New Rotary Year!  It is with great excitement, humility, and gratitude that I welcome you to another year of fellowship, service, and opportunity.

A new Rotary year is more than a change in leadership—it's a chance to renew our commitment to the ideals that brings us together. Every meeting, every service project, and every life we touch reflects the spirit of Rotary and our shared commitment to Service Above Self.

Whether you're a member, a community partner, or a first-time visitor, there's a place for you in Rotary. We invite you to join us as we serve, connect, and create positive change—one project, one friendship, and one act of kindness at a time.

To our current members - thank you for placing your trust in me to serve as your Club President. I look forward to working alongside each of you as we continue making a positive difference in our community and beyond.

This year, I hope each of us will find new ways to engage. Whether you've been a Rotarian for decades or you've just joined our club, your ideas, talents, and enthusiasm are what make our club thrive. Together, we can strengthen our friendships, grow our membership, expand our service, and continue creating lasting change.

Together, we can accomplish far more than any one of us could alone.  Here's to a wonderful Rotary year filled with friendship, service, laughter, and lasting memories!

Yours in Rotary,
Randy Burton
President - 2026-27
Rotary Club of Point West – Sacramento
Collaboration works!  Three clubs in District 5180 came together to create a great project to bring transportation to youth in our community.  The Rotary Clubs of Point West Rotary, Arden Arcade and American River joined in purchasing a Rotary Van that is wrapped in Rotary branding.  More importantly, the passenger van has been donated to both the Fulton-El Camino and Mission Oaks Recreation and Park Districts to transport students to youth activities throughout the area.  As part of the unveiling, Rotarians also provided students from Aspire High School with a hands-on vehicle maintenance tutorial, covering basics such as checking tire pressure and tread, fluids, windshield wipers and how to change a tire.

The presentation was captured by Channel 13 News featuring the current presidents of each of the Rotary Clubs involved - Dorthe Wright, Point West Rotary; Matt Ross, Arden Arcade Rotary; and Allison Hamaker, American River Rotary.

One of our favorite events of the year is coming up...and you won't want to miss this!  Join us on Monday, May 18, 2026 for our annual Point West Rotary charity golf event "Birdies Over Bunkers".  We'll be teeing off with a shotgun start at 11 am at the beautiful golf course at Valley Hi Country Club - a four-person scramble.   If you're a scratch golfer...or a once-in-a-while player...we need you!  All net proceeds go back to our local community...supporting the California Eagles Golf (a program under The First Tee of Sacramento) and other children's charities.  Have fun and support our local community at the same time!  We'll have lots of fun on-course events/contests, a drone ball drop, putting contest, lunch, dinner...and so much more!  It's easy to register...just click HERE - register or get more info!

Enriching lives in Zambia, Africa - that's one of the key reasons that Point West Rotary has taken the lead in securing a Rotary Foundation Global Grant.  Funding from the global grant will provide reading education to thousands of young people in the community of South Luangwa, Zambia and it will help them achieve a level of literacy which can improve their chances of success in life.

By integrating structured reading support in the school system and ensuring long-term sustainability through local oversight, this initiative will help break the cycle of poverty, create economic opportunity and empower future generations in South Luangwa.  We invite all Rotary Clubs, both inside and outside of our district, to join us in changing lives and doing good in the world!  For more information, contact Mike Cendro, PWR International Grants Committee Chair, at mtcendro@gmail.com
Over the last several decades, Point West Rotary has proudly supported the California Eagles golf program at Haggin Oaks.  PWR has provided financial support over the years as well as having many members showing up on Tuesday nights (each week from May to September) at Haggin Oaks to be coaches to the many athletes in the program.   Our club recently finished out another year serving as coaches and we want to thank all of those that participated...PWR members Russ Fujii, Robert Haney, Bea Maurer, Mike Bede, Kathi Berger, Sandy Thompson, Tom Engwer, Joanie Mather, Glen Cheron, DeWana Ljung, Desiree Wilson as well as Ed Schatz, J.R. Corcoran, Jake Slaven, Zach Berger, Dwight Chambers. It was an amazing year and we think the coaches had as much fun as the athletes!

The California Eagles is a golf program for athletes of all ages with special needs. The program includes, but is not limited to, those with Down’s Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Attention Deficit Disorder, autism, deafness, blindness, or recovering from heart attacks and strokes.
