Point West Rotary in the Community
Dear Members and Fellow Rotarians,

It is a true honor to serve as the 41st President of the Rotary Club of Point West – Sacramento.  As Rotarians, we believe in “Service Above Self” and take pride in the impact we make locally and globally. Our club thrives because of the spirit and dedication of our members, and I’m grateful to be part of such a committed group.

We connect each week—through Friday breakfast meetings, service projects, business tours, and social events—to build friendships and strengthen our shared mission. These experiences deepen our understanding of the needs in our community and the power of Rotary to create change.

Our impact spans from sponsoring educational programs and youth exchanges to supporting global initiatives that provide clean water, improve literacy, and promote peace. Whether it’s building reading centers in Zambia or funding scholarships for girls in India, our efforts reflect Rotary’s vision of a better world.

To all our members: thank you for your passion, generosity, and continued service. Let’s make this Rotary year meaningful, fun, and impactful.

Warm regards,
Dorthe Wright
President, 2025–2026
One of our favorite events of the year is coming up...and you won't want to miss this!  Join us on Monday, May 18, 2026 for our annual Point West Rotary charity golf event "Birdies Over Bunkers".  We'll be teeing off with a shotgun start at 11 am at the beautiful golf course at Valley Hi Country Club - a four-person scramble.   If you're a scratch golfer...or a once-in-a-while player...we need you!  All net proceeds go back to our local community...supporting the California Eagles Golf (a program under The First Tee of Sacramento) and other children's charities.  Have fun and support our local community at the same time!  We'll have lots of fun on-course events/contests, a drone ball drop, putting contest, lunch, dinner...and so much more!  It's easy to register...just click HERE - register or get more info!

A crisp, cool morning and Point West Rotarians were out in force to support our community at the 32nd annual Run To Feed The Hungry on Thanksgiving Day!  A 5K walk with friends and family to help raise money for the Sacramento Food Bank.  We joined 34,000 other runners/walkers knowing that many families facing food insecurity were going to be fed.  Just part of what we do!  Join us if you want to serve your community!
Enriching lives in Zambia, Africa - that's one of the key reasons that Point West Rotary has taken the lead in securing a Rotary Foundation Global Grant.  Funding from the global grant will provide reading education to thousands of young people in the community of South Luangwa, Zambia and it will help them achieve a level of literacy which can improve their chances of success in life.

By integrating structured reading support in the school system and ensuring long-term sustainability through local oversight, this initiative will help break the cycle of poverty, create economic opportunity and empower future generations in South Luangwa.  We invite all Rotary Clubs, both inside and outside of our district, to join us in changing lives and doing good in the world!  For more information, contact Mike Cendro, PWR International Grants Committee Chair, at mtcendro@gmail.com
Over the last several decades, Point West Rotary has proudly supported the California Eagles golf program at Haggin Oaks.  PWR has provided financial support over the years as well as having many members showing up on Tuesday nights (each week from May to September) at Haggin Oaks to be coaches to the many athletes in the program.   Our club recently finished out another year serving as coaches and we want to thank all of those that participated...PWR members Russ Fujii, Robert Haney, Bea Maurer, Mike Bede, Kathi Berger, Sandy Thompson, Tom Engwer, Joanie Mather, Glen Cheron, DeWana Ljung, Desiree Wilson as well as Ed Schatz, J.R. Corcoran, Jake Slaven, Zach Berger, Dwight Chambers. It was an amazing year and we think the coaches had as much fun as the athletes!

The California Eagles is a golf program for athletes of all ages with special needs. The program includes, but is not limited to, those with Down’s Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Attention Deficit Disorder, autism, deafness, blindness, or recovering from heart attacks and strokes.
